Induced Abortion and Mental Health: A systematic review of the evidence - full report and consultation table with responses

Published: December 2011

This review was commissioned and published by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC). It was funded by the Department of Health, and carried out by the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) at the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The purpose of the systematic review was to examine the evidence of the impact of abortion upon women’s mental health. Whilst the moral and ethical issues relating to induced abortion are important, they were not within the brief of the review. The full report can be downloaded from the AoMRC reports and guidance page.

During the development of the review, a public consultation was carried out. A record of all comments received and the developers’ responses can be downloaded here.
